Have you ever wanted a hobby motorcycle? Something unique yet simple enough for you to toy around with. Well here is an option to consider, the Sky Team Ace 125 Café-Racer. This basic café-racer style motorcycle was launched yesterday by Sky Team (M) Sdn. Bhd.
Sky Team originates from Hong Kong with a factory in China and for the Malaysian market the motorcycles are assembled in Penang in collaboration with the assemblers of Sym motorcycles. The Ace 125 is powered by an 11hp engine based on the Honda CG. This 87kg chain driven motorcycle comes equipped with a single disc brake up front and a drum brake system for the rear. The four stroke engine has a 5-speed gearbox. The tank carries 9.2liters of fuel while the suspension consists of a telescopic front fork and twin coil shocks for the rear.
The Sky Team Ace 125 will be sold across Malaysia at 153 dealerships at RM7366.78 and it comes in three different colour scemes – Ace Silver, Matt Grey and Racer Blue. The manufacturer warranty covers a period of 1-year or 10,000kms whichever comes first. Sky Team Sdn. Bhd. aims to sell 400 units of the Ace 125 over the next year. Besides the Ace 125, two other models, the Lady 110 and the PBR110 were also previewed at the launch event.
Following the launch, a media test ride was held at the Elite Speedway Circuit where members of the media were allowed to try out the Ace 125 as well as the PBR and Lady 110. The Ace is a light and nimble motorcycle capable of hitting a claimed 110km/h. It would make a fair city cruiser with a dash of classic styling. The engine is perky enough but leaves much to be desired un the load of bulkier riders, the small frame also proved to be a little cramped for taller riders.
The overall ride was smooth, I personally felt that a stiffer rear suspension and better brakes upfront will serve as an advantage to future buyers. It’s a nice little classic style café racer to kick-start your need to tinker with something that’s cheap and cheerful.
