Art of Speed Malaysia 2017 – A Huge Resounding Success.

Over 40,000 people turned up for Malaysia’ biggest and coolest custom culture show.

Art of Speed 2017 ended last Sunday with a mega blast by the band Hujan, it was the perfect ending to a best retro and custom show in the country. This was the sixth consecutive installment of the show presented by the husband and wife team of Deni and Asep, together with their dedicated crew of merry men and women. The Art of Speed 2017 was a sumptuous feast for the senses of any automotive enthusiast. There was so much happening inside and outside the halls that visiting for a day wasn’t enough to experience the entire show. Kudos to the management and the team that worked hard to make AOS 2017 an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone.

This year’s show was a star studded affair, petrol heads from all over the region congregated at MAEPS, Serdang to celebrate special guests including Cole Foster from Salinas Boys Custom Cars & Bikes USA, Jeff Holt from Hot Bike Magazine USA, David “Chopperdave” Freston from USA, Shige Suganuma & Wildman from MOONEYES Japan, Dino Dalle Carbonare from Speedhunters.com Japan, Kaichiroh Kurosu from Cherry’s Company Japan, Yuichi Yoshizawa from Custom Works Zon from Japan, Makonabe from Chopper Journal Magazine Japan, Tetsu from Hopping Shower Japan, Sugihara Ken from Fusty Works from Japan, Toshiyuki Osawa from 4th Dimension from Japan, Shigeo from 420 Kustom from Japan, Chicarockabilly Shima & Theresa Tay from Cherry Bomb Singapore, Irvine Jasta & Fahmi Freeflow from Indonesia, The Nash from Burnout Magazine Japan, and the art collective pinstripe group from Japan; Makoto, Mr. G, Jetwrench and Cynar. Pheeew…can you beat this list?

Talents were recognised and rewarded at the show via the Invitational Bike Build-Off 2017, powered by Petronas, which saw 10 builders from Malaysia and Singapore dishing out their best effort for the bragging rights over the cash prizes.

Muhammad Khalid Musa from Rusty Factory took the overall title for the Bike Build-Off for his work on a Honda CX500. The 30 year-old Ipoh lad also walked away with the Public Choice award with the most votes casted beating 9 builders.
Boon Siew Honda, distributor of iconic Honda motorcycles and Art of Speed cooked up a special project in collaboration with four lifestyle icons which included the Legend Racing Garage, BWB, District Shop Gallery and Ah Ho Motors to showcase their creations. Two Honda MSK and two Honda EX-5 were reworked and customised for the Boon Siew Honda X Art of Speed show-off.

Ducati Malaysia seized the opportunity to launch two of the upcoming Scrambler models, the Desert Sled and Café Racer. Both models drew great interest from show visitors who received more information about the new model at the Ducati stand.

The HOUSE OF VANS Skateboard & BMX Competition and art workshop was an exciting section to visit with plenty of activities for children, teenagers and the young at heart while Hot Wheels’ lead designer Jun Imai from USA also graced AOS 2017 with his presence.

Oh Chentaku performed the opening act on Saturday, while popular band Hujan closed the event on Sunday with a bang! The presence of local celebrities such as Nora Danish and Alif Satar also added to the merriment of the event which drew friends and families passionate about classic and custom lifestyle.
Last but not least, there were daily lucky draws, where a CMC XY400 was given away on Saturday to Abdul Halim Mat, and a fully custom Yamaha RX-Z Twin Bosst by FNG Works & Beautiful Machines was won on Sunday by lucky chap from Perlis, Mohd Fadly Mohd Zerain.

Keeping up with its traditions, the organisers once again brought in modded Japanese vehicles for an exhibition like no other. This year, visitors were treated with:

According to, Asep Ahmad Iskandar, Founder of Art of Speed Malaysia, “This year’s edition is definitely our best installation yet, with the variety and complexity not only of the vehicles, but we have also expanded the activities throughout the weekend to suit all age groups.”

“This includes a Show and Shine competition in an air-conditioned 150,000 square feet hall with customs and classics in Hall A, while NEAT Fest occupying Hall C curated by NoEqual, an art gallery called Moto Circus with local and international artists, Kustom and Coffee Talk, as well as children and family friendly activities such as Star Wars costumed charity photo opportunities, a Soapbox Show & Go!, marketplace and a youth arena featuring an indoor skate park hosted by House of VANS.”

Art of Speed 2017 also organized its third Mega Club Gathering and Roda Rumble gathering by the Retro Mania boys that injected new excitement to all classic, retro and olskool vehicle owners.

The winner of Best of Show motorcycle and automobile categories won package trips to the MOONEYES Yokohama Hotrod and Custom Show this coming December as a Guest of Honour.
